Our goal at Squirrel Defense Initiative is to make the best bird feeder available and to make you a completely satisfied customer. We take great care in handcrafting and testing every Squirrel-Off ™ Solar Powered Bird Feeder, and we expect it to give both you and the birds a lifetime of enjoyment. We want to make the best squirrel-proof bird feeder that you can buy, but we can't do it without you. We want to know what you think. Customer feedback and field testing is our most valuable resource in our quest to develop the perfect squirrel-proof feeder. We recommend that the feeder be placed on a pole attached to the base. Recommended minimum clearance is 24" between the perch and flat surfaces, 11" from the outer edge of the perch to slippery vertical objects (poles, hangers etc.) and 14" from the outer edge of the perch to tree trunks or other vertical objects. Since activation is based on touching the feeder, a squirrel that is able to lean across to the feeder, touching only its front paws on only one of the perches, may avoid activating the feeder.

Place your feeder where it will receive at least two hours of full sun light each day. Please note that due to the low path of the sun across the sky during winter months, it is imperative that the solar panel be facing south (in locations north of the equator) and not shaded by trees, houses or other structures.

Place your feeder within 30 feet of a bush or tree if possible. Because of the threat that hawks and other predators may present, birds are most comfortable when they are close to cover.

If you have problems with raccoons, do not worry. The electronic circuit will work at night until they go elsewhere.

Unlike birds, squirrels stockpile nuts and other natural foods. They do not need your bird seed; they just want it. Squirrels are extremely sturdy and resilient creatures. Their dense, thick bone structures are ideally suited for their life high in the branches. Their bushy tails provide balance, and just like cats they have the uncanny ability of always landing on their feet. Feeder placement is important as it not only prevents the squirrels from stealing your seed, but it gives them the opportunity to land softly. In addition, using the minimum distance recommendations deters injured or lame squirrels from attempting to use the feeder. Please do not place your feeder too close to surrounding objects or at excessive heights!

If you choose to hang the feeder, please hang it securely. When filled with seed the feeder may weigh 7 -10 lbs. The warranty does not cover damage incurred if the feeder falls.

Washing your bird feeder periodically is important for the health of the birds and to prevent the growth of mold and the spread of contagious diseases. We recommend cleaning at least once a month in the winter and more often in hot and humid weather. The Squirrel-Off™ Solar Powered Bird Feeder, like other outdoor products, is designed to be water resistant. However, it is not designed to be waterproof. Submerging the feeder in water will damage the electronics and voids the warranty. Always turn the activation switch to OFF and remove the clear windows and seed screens prior to cleaning. Clean the feeder with a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar. Rinse and allow to dry thoroughly before reinstalling the clear windows and seed trays.

• This feeder has electronic parts and uses electricity to deter squirrels. Common sense should be used. Failure to heed any of the warnings contained herein could result in serious injury.
• Always turn activation switch to the OFF position before cleaning, removing parts, moving or handling the feeder. Use caution if icicles have formed on the perch ring. Do not touch the perch ring when turning feeder OFF or ON.
• Keep feeder out of the reach of children and pets.
• Do not immerse the base, housing or roof in water.
• Do not open the base or roof assembly for any reason. All warranties are void if the feeder housing is removed from the base or if the roof assembly is taken apart.
• The printed circuit board inside the feeder contains Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries. Do not incinerate. Dispose of properly in accordance with local laws.
• Do not place the feeder near heat or fire.
• The Squirrel-Off™ Solar Powered Bird Feeder is shipped with batteries already charged. Check to ensure that the activation switch is in the OFF position.
• Initial charge time should be in full sun light for at least two (2) hours. The sophisticated electronic circuitry prevents the batteries from being over charged. The premium batteries included should provide many years of trouble free service.
• Fill the Squirrel-Off™ Solar Powered Bird Feeder with sunflower seed, safflower, sunflower hearts, or your favorite specialty mix. Premium black oil sunflower seed is highly recommended as it is very nutritious and attracts the widest variety of birds.
• We recommend that you mount your Squirrel-Off™ Solar Powered Bird Feeder on a pole. If you choose to hang your feeder, use a rigid hook.

The Squirrel-Off™ Solar Powered Bird Feeders are engineered to minimize seed spillage while providing optimum seed dispersal to the feed tray. Losing a few seeds is normal when a squirrel jumps on the feeder. The squirrels will eventually recognize that their effort to get food outweighs the amount of seed they get and they will give up.
